- Abstract
The article analyzes the Sevillian mercantile societies between 1747 and 1848 through their contracts, using various documentary, legal, and doctrinal sources. It shows how Seville went from being a great commercial metropolis to an agrarian city during this period, and examines the transformation of company law and mercantile culture. The role of women in the commercial activities of Sevillian companies is also highlighted, emphasizing their relevance in commercial life and their participation in different aspects and pecuniary quantifications of social capital. The article also addresses the definition of mercantile terms and links, as well as the relationship of trust in company administration and the responsibility of partners.
