- Abstract
The article discusses the history of American state court judicial elections in relation to judicial independence in the U.S. as of 2016, and it mentions how the debate over judicial selection dates back to the American Revolution in the eighteenth century. The impacts that special interest groups such as the American Bar Association can have on judicial campaigns in the U.S. are examined, along with judicial accountability and former American Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's views.
