- Abstract
The article discusses how southern right whale calves (Eubalaena australis) may utilize lactose as an energy source. It is said that lactose is a carbohydrate found in the milk of most mammals and is a vital energy source for mammalian offspring. A lactase enzyme in the brush border in the small intestine hydrolyzes the majority of lactose.
