- Abstract
The article presents alternative methods for determining the altitude of theodolite observation stations. It states that theodolites have been used for many years to measure the movement patterns of near-shore groups of marine animals. It discusses existing theodolite methods used to determine total shore station elevation. It highlights the advantages of the Global Positioning System (GPS)-comparison method which is used for study sites where the shoreline is accessible or not visible to the theodolite operator. It mentions that a simultaneous GPS method with theodolite measurements is useful addition to other published methods of determining shore station height.
