RETURN TO THE COOPER'S FERRY SITE: STUDYING CULTURAL CHRONOLOGY, GEOECOLOGY, AND FORAGERS IN CONTEXT.
- Authors
Davis, Loren G.
- Abstract
Archaeological and geoarchaeological research conducted at the Cooper's Ferry site of western Idaho in 1997 discovered deeply buried archaeological components in association with pre-Clovis radiocarbon age charcoal; however, an unequivocal case for pre-Clovis occupation at Cooper's Ferry has not yet been made. Beginning in 2009 Oregon State University archaeologists, under the direction of Loren Davis, began a new program of research seeking to answer three main questions about the site that address issues of cultural chronology, cultural adaptation, and culture change. This paper discusses particular theoretical and methodological approaches to be applied to current research activities at the Cooper's Ferry site.
