- Abstract
The expression 'ēl qannā'/qannô ("jealous God") appears seven times in biblical Hebrew (Exod 20,5; 34,14; Deut 4,24; 5,9; 6,15; Josh 24,19; Nah 1,2), for the most part in a context of covenant, introducing the surprising feeling of jealousy in the relationship between YHWH and his people. Examining these seven texts, the present work wants to understand the meaning of the expression 'ēl qannā'/qannô in the different contexts where it is used, in order to understand the theological meaning of divine jealousy, underlining the double-faced aspect of wrath and mercy present inside the covenant between YHWH and Israel.
