- Abstract
The article describes the life and work of the Zurich painter and graphic artist Dora Hauth-Trachsler. She was a versatile artist who created portraits, genre and landscape paintings, interiors, still lifes, posters, book illustrations, postcards, bookplates, and costume designs. Despite financial difficulties, she was a dedicated artist who advocated for women's suffrage and social justice. She also created lithographic works and designed postcards. Hauth was known for her ability to capture the individuality of her models and her empathetic approach. She was also politically active and designed posters for various political events. Hauth was fascinated by the world of theater and fairy tales and created decorative works and costume designs. She also worked as a writer and ran an art school. Hauth received support from friends and acquaintances and successfully participated in various competitions. She was the vice president of the Zurich section of the Society of Swiss Women Painters and Sculptors. Hauth also worked as an illustrator and designed postcards for Gottfried Keller's novella cycle "The People of Seldwyla".
