- Abstract
The article discusses the use of visualization to improve critical literacy in middle school students, with particular focus given to visualization strategies observed in book clubs for adolescent girls run by the author. The importance of critical literacy, in which readers actively engage with a text rather than merely understanding it, is emphasized and the author's thesis that visualization of parts of texts including characters and settings can increase critical literacy is explored. The author's suggestions for encouraging students to use visualization in their reading are also offered.
