- Abstract
This article discusses the history and development of legal defenses in Spanish law during the 16th through the 17th centuries. The author comments on the procedural law process, including dilatory exceptions. He also considers the concept of defensiones, which has the effect of delaying the procedural process. An analysis of the defensiones in Spanish legal literature from the period is provided. The changes and reforms made to the Spanish procedural law over this time period are also examined.
