The article discusses the prosecution of Radclyffe Hall's novel "The Well of Loneliness" on November 9, 1928 at the Bow Street Magistrates Court in England due to perceived obscenity. Topics explored include the depiction of lesbianism by the novel, the withdrawal of the novel by publisher Jonathan Cape following the publication of an editorial which called for the need to ban the book, and the seizure and burning of the book ordered by chief magistrate Chartres Biron.
