- Title
That daring young man on the flying trapeze ...'.
- Abstract
The article reports that French acrobat Jules Léotard performed the first flying trapeze act at a circus on November 12, 1859. At the time, Léotard was working for the Cirque Napoleon in Paris, France. He was a self taught trapeze artist who learned how to perform by practicing on equipment he set up over his father's pool in Toulouse, France. Léotard's name was given to the tight garment he wore for performances and his act inspired the song by Gaston Lyle with lyrics by George Leybourne about the "daring young man on the flying trapeze."
