- Abstract
The article focuses on England's King Henry VIII. The author discusses popular misconceptions about the king created by mass media which tend to focus on the last years of Henry's reign. When Henry ascended the throne in 1509, he was only 17 years old. He was accounted to be handsome, intelligent, physically fit, and wise. The author compares early accounts of King Henry with those of his later life, outlining the drastic differences in his personality. Particular discussion is given relating the events of the year 1536 and its influence on his personality changes and shifts in public image.
