- Title
A elite do Partido Republicano se apropria da "Revolução".
- Authors
Grijó, Luiz Alberto
- Abstract
The article discusses the appropriation of the ideas and ideals that allegedly guided the action of the leaders of the "Farroupilha" Movement by the elite of the Republican Part of Rio Grande do Sul (Partido Republicano Rio-Grandense [PRR]). It assesses the importance of the identification between the revolt that began in 1835 and the republican movement of the '1880s for the leaders of PRR, mainly as a way of refuting their political opponents' — namely, the followers of Gaspar Silveira Martins — legitimacy as they presented themselves as "heirs of the 'farrapos'".
