The article focuses on the colostrum management as an initiave for improving calf health and decreasing calf mortality on Irish farms. It presents several recommendations regarding the feeding of colostrum in the newly born calf including use of colostrum as a first feed, it should be given within two hours of birth and a minimum dose of 3 liters. It also discusses the significance of hygienic harvesting and proper storage of colostrum in order to prevent the bacterial contamination.
