- Title
Causes of extinction in island birds.
- Authors
Duncan, R. P.; Blackburn, T. M.
- Abstract
The article comments on several studies about the causes of extinction in island birds. The authors pointed out that the results of studies implicate human hunting and the introduction of exotic mammalian predators as a primary cause of avian extinctions on islands. They argued that genetic effects cannot be implicated as the ultimate cause of island bird population decline. The two patterns to island extinctions are also addressed.
