- Title
The Potential Role of Lumateperone-Something Borrowed? Something New?
- Authors
Kantrowitz, Joshua T.
- Abstract
Editorial Antipsychotic medications are the primary pharmacologic treatment for schizophrenia and were initially discovered fortuitously in the early 1950s. The numerous antipsychotic drugs that have been introduced during the 6 decades since chlorpromazine was developed have provided some incremental improvement in antipsychotic efficacy and safety. Similar to second-generation antipsychotics, lumateperone has antagonist effects at the D SB 2 sb and 5-HT SB 2A sb receptors, and it remains possible that lumateperone is just another "me-too" second-generation antipsychotic.
