- Abstract
Human beings' dream of tens of thousands of years; to convey the messages they want to societies and manipulate them as they want seems to have literally become reality with the widespread use of media, digitalization and social media in today's societies. American Gods is a highly watched digital platform drama based on Nail Gaiman's cult novel of the same name. Although it looks like a fantastic fun series, it has been critical of media and new media for controling and manipulating people, becoming an addiction, seeking answers to all human needs in a digital environment and therefore forgeting how to be human, imposing all kinds of concepts and phenomena othered by the sovereign on societies, it also criticizes digitalization and its result; globalization, for bringing the end of humanity. In the series, the endless war between new and old, traditional and modern, good and evil is processed through the metaphor of Gods, the Old Gods are characterized as good and New Gods as bad, and Media and New Media are shown as the most powerful evil weapon among the bad ones. This study was conducted using content and rhetorical analysis methods to analyze the critical perspective of both the content and discourse of the American Gods series on Media and New Media Concepts.
