- Abstract
Prof. Dr. Jens Volker Kratz, a distinguished experimental nuclear chemist, passed away at the age of 79. He was known for his work in the field of the heaviest elements. Kratz obtained his PhD in nuclear spectroscopy and fission yields of short-lived isotopes. He worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in the US before joining the research center GSI in Germany. His research focused on heavy-ion reactions, transactinide elements, and actinides in the environment. Kratz was recognized for his scientific work and remained active after retirement. He will be remembered for his dedication to science and warm-heartedness.
