- Title
Groupers in decline.
- Abstract
The article reports on the issues discussed during the workshop on fisheries management held in Hong Kong, China in 2007. Participants of the workshop agreed to add 12 species of commercial fishes to be included in the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List. The workshop proposed for better fisheries management, more effective protected areas and more sustainable eating habits among consumers to battle the increasing demand for groupers, the oldest fish species on coral reefs, with some species living for over 50 years.
