- Abstract
To maintain the structure of society, the curriculum is structured to convey the essence and values of society to the younger generations. In this context, “(5-ı) courses” in the Higher Education Law serve this understanding. While Foreign Language, Turkish, Atatürk's Principles, and History of Revolution are common compulsory courses for at least two semesters in undergraduate and associate degree programs, the Computer course was no longer a common compulsory course in 2018. In line with this study, students' first semester (Turkish-I, Atatürk's Principles, and Revolution History I, Foreign Language-I, Computer-I) and the second semester (Turkish-II, Atatürk's Principles, and Revolution History-II, Foreign Language-II, Computer-I) II) It is aimed to determine the predictive power of the canonical variables (u1 and v1) producted from the academic achievements in the courses on the undergraduate general academic achievement grade point averages (UGPA). The acceptable level of correlation between the achievement scores of the students in the first and second term (5- ı) courses shows that these courses are a continuity of each other and support the progressive and cumulative feature. It was concluded that “v1 canonical variable" and academic achievement scores in Computer I-II and Foreign Language II were significant predictors of UGPA. It was concluded that“v1 canonical variable" and Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution I-II, Foreign Language I and Turkish I-II academic achievement scores were not a significant predictor of UGPA. It is recommended to carry out studies in cooperation with the MEB and YOK in order to ensure that students have the necessary competencies for distance education and to revise the MEB curriculum of these courses in a way that improves the readiness level of students in the context of gradualism from secondary education to the first semester of university.
