- Abstract
The Winter Park Library and Events Center in Winter Park, Florida, consists of three precast concrete structures provided by Gate Precast. These structures include a two-story library, an events center with a rooftop terrace, and a portico. The buildings feature angled exterior precast concrete walls and shaded outdoor areas. The design incorporates rose-colored, pigmented architectural precast concrete panels that lean outward as they rise from the base, creating a distinctive look. The panels were built using twisting-shaped forms with connection plates set at twisted and varying elevations. Erecting the panels at an acute angle posed a challenge, but a rolling bearing connection design and push-pull connections near the bottom of the panels allowed for easy adjustment. The design also considered the need for the precast concrete facade to withstand hurricane-strength winds. Overall, the project aimed to create a porous relationship between the interior and exterior, drawing in natural light and incorporating elements inspired by Florida's native vegetation.
