- Abstract
Utilizing a qualitative approach, the purpose of this study was to identify the attitudes and perceptions regarding travel among African -- Americans between the ages of 21 and 31. Through in-depth, semi structured, face to face interviews, the motivations and perceived benefits of traveling and the perceived constraints to of African Americans to travel were examined. Through the constant comparative method different themes evolved. The researchers developed a grounded theory model of travel motivations, barriers and benefits for this demographic and examined its correlation with different theories. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
