- Title
Many, If Not Most, Agree: How Practicing Teachers View Middle Grades Teacher Preparation Program Priorities.
- Authors
Messer, David W.
- Abstract
Teacher preparation programs are increasingly coming under fire and are subject to widespread criticism. Several states, and even the federal government, are looking at ways to hold these university-based programs accountable, not just for the evaluation-based performance of the teachers they graduate but also for the performance of the students those teachers instruct. It is within this potentially contentious environment that this study was conducted in order to ascertain the alignment between what practicing teachers felt was important to include in a middle school teacher preparation program and what that program was actually emphasizing.
