- Abstract
Wattakaka volubilis is well known traditional medicinal plant and is used in various indigenous systems of medicine. The present research work aims to evaluate hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of Wattakaka volubilis Linn against Paracetamol induced hepatic damage in albino rats. The hepatoprotective effect was studied on rat liver damage induced by Paracetamol by monitoring serum parameters like Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, Alkaline Phosphatase, TotalProtien, Albumin, Bilirubin and histopathological alterations. The ethanolic extract exhibited a significant protective effect by lowering serum levels of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin. Silymarin was used as the standard drug for comparison. Treatment with Wattakaka volubilis extract significantly reduced the Paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity.
