- Abstract
Capoeira therapy and senior dance are physical activities that can be used to promote flexibility and quality of life in elderly individuals. With this hypothesis, this article aims to assess the effects of capoeira therapy and senior dance on flexibility and quality of life in older women. The study is an observational cohort study conducted with a sample of 94 elderly women, of which 66 engaged in capoeira therapy and senior dance activities, while 28 women were sedentary. The abbreviated Medical Outcomes Study-36 and flexibility assessment were administered. The paired t-test was used for dependent samples. The results reveal that many active elderly women had a good level of quality of life in the domains of functional capacity and social aspects, while many inactive women had a good level in the domain of mental health. In the analysis of flexibility, significant differences were found among the elderly participants (p = 0.12 vs. p = 0.28). In conclusion, the practice of capoeira therapy and senior dance contributes to positive effects, albeit limited, on the flexibility and quality of life of older women.
