- Abstract
Objective: to investigate the participation of women in decision making during recurrent deliveries in adolescence. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study, based on the Theory of Social Representations. Thirty women who experienced recurrent birth during adolescence were part of this study. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview and analyzed based on the Discursive Textual Analysis. Results: women who do not know about the process of parturition are anchored in negative feelings and transfer the decision on the type of delivery to medical knowledge. In the counterpoint, when they obtain knowledge, they demonstrate active voice in the decision making as to the type of delivery that they want. Conclusion: it was possible to verify that the pillar of the decision making regarding the type of birth experienced is closely linked to the provision of information to the woman because when there is knowledge, there is empowerment in the process of gestating and giving birth.
