- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Southern Ute Indian tribe and examines archaeological evidence related to the Ute tribe. Details are provided about the ethnology of the Southern Utes and about the Wiminuche, Capote, and Moache bands of Ute Indians. Interactions between Ute Indians and European explorers are described and the effect of European interaction on Ute culture is explored. Information is also presented about the relationship between the Utes and other Indians tribes such as the Navajo and about the relationship between the Utes and the governments of Mexico and the U.S.
