A biography of the Scottish mapmaker James Robertson is presented. He was born on February 24, 1753 in Gossabrough, Yell Island within the Shetland Islands, Scotland and attended Marischal College in Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1778, Robertson traveled to Jamaica, where he worked as a surveyor of boundaries and plantation. A few decades later, he created a map of Jamaica, which included the country's counties.
