- Authors
Song, Mi-Kyung; Ward, Sandra E
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of emergency contacts during patient's critical condition and the role of surrogate decision-maker. It states that when the patient's condition suddenly deteriorates, the emergency contact may be asked to make decisions instead fall to a designated surrogate decision maker. It mentions that patients select surrogates who are not the same person listed in official medical records, as emergency contact. This could pose problems in medical decision-making.
