- Abstract
The article presents a study that evaluates polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods for efficacy in detecting Pneumocystis jirovecii by analyzing oropharyngeal washings (OW) samples from individuals without Pneumocystis pneumonia (PcP) but might harbor the organism. Results indicate that analysis of PCR and OW, which can be obtained rapidly and by non-invasive procedures appears to be valuable for PcP diagnosis.
