- Title
The Control of Hair Growth: An Overview.
- Authors

- Abstract
In many mammals hair is of vital importance in thermal insulation, a property that has undoubtedly been important in their evolutionary success. Hair is also concerned with social and sexual communication, both visually and as a means for dispersing scents secreted by skin glands. Certain hairs, vibrissae for example, have specialized sensory functions. Humans are relatively hairless compared to other mammals and human hair has no known significance for survival of the species. However, it remains an important cosmetic asset and perceptions about cultural norms and departures therefore give rise to great distress and much industrial activity.
