- Abstract
This article informs that endometriosis, gynecologic cancer, polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, sexually transmitted diseases and complications of pregnancy afflict millions of women each year. Ovarian cancer has the highest fatality rate of any gynecologic malignancy and is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women. Using transplantation studies, the authors showed that the endometriosis apparently arose from epithelial cells in the uterus or fallopian tubes, whereas the ovarian adenocarcinomas derived from the ovarian surface epithelium.
