- Title
Chemical ecology: Reprogramming a termite monarchy.
- Authors
Bussell, Jennifer J.; Vosshall, Leslie B.
- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates the chemical basis of the biological process in termites Reticulitermes. It discusses the identification of volatile inhibitory termite queen pheromone which is being used to suppress the growing number of female neotenics when the primary queen dies with the use of a GC-MS analysis. It reveals that the recognition of the pheromone will possibly lessen the number of the termites.
