Abstract
The article discusses working in a Mercy Ships charity where medical professionals work among the world's poorest who have crippling and disfiguring deformities such as facial tumors, goiters, and orthopedic abnormalities. It tells the experience of a nurse who has the nickname of Mercy Mama, aboard the Africa Mercy ship who rejoiced over a successful operation and grieved at a hopeless case. It also offers information on what it takes to be a volunteer nurse in the ships.
