- Abstract
The article focuses on the benefits awarded to debtors based on their marital status in the U.S. bankruptcy codes. It analyzes the reasons of ineffectiveness of the codes because of marital status, including changing economy, decreased job availability, and increased cost of living. It discusses impact of these reasons on the U.S. citizens who are suffering from financial crisis. It emphasized the need of amendment in the codes for effective use and optimal impact on honest debtors.
