- Title
Police Powers to Retain Personal Data Relating to Public Activities.
- Authors
Purshouse, Joe
- Abstract
The article discusses a court case wherein the Court of Appeal held that the state's systematic collection and retention in retrievable form of public information regarding an individual constitutes an interference with that individual's rights under Article 8(1) of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Majority judgment confirms that the retention of personal information on searchable databases does interfere with the right to respect for private life.
