- Abstract
The article provides the technology education teacher with a framework for developing an academic service learning project. In a continuous effort to teach realworld concepts and skills, community outreach projects can be one of the main avenues of student success in the field of technology. Employers are interested in students who have realworld exposure as well as a depth and breadth of academic experiences. Service learning projects provide an opportunity to engage students, teachers and community members in community service and civic participation. Service learning addresses process learning, continuous learning and is an interactive phenomenon. Process learning reinforces a student's ability to solve problems. Continuous learning helps shape the student's attitude about life-long learning. The interactive nature of service learning helps the students to consider the effects of technology on society. The goal of Southeastern Louisiana University is to help create stronger community-school relationships that are beneficial to each group while enhancing academic instruction.
