- Abstract
This document is a summary of a special issue of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences focused on recent advances in understanding the pathophysiology and pharmacological treatment of endometriosis. The authors highlight the complexity of endometriosis and the multiple factors that contribute to its development and progression. They discuss various theories on the pathogenesis of endometriosis, including retrograde menstruation, benign metastasis, and coelomic metaplasia. The role of immune dysregulation and oxidative stress in the disease is also explored. The document emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to research and collaboration in order to develop comprehensive management strategies and improve the quality of life for those affected by endometriosis.
