- Title
Powder Coating: GLOSS REDUCTION TECHNIQUES.
- Authors
Biller, Nathan
- Abstract
This article discusses various techniques for reducing the gloss of powder coatings to achieve different aesthetic requirements. One method involves using mineral fillers or wax additives to create a desired appearance or texture on the coating's surface. Extender pigments, such as calcium carbonate and barium sulfate, can also be used to reduce gloss. Differential cure, where two compatible powder coating formulations with different functionality are combined, can result in a low-gloss finish. Additionally, combining incompatible polymers in a one-shot formulation can produce a dead matte finish. Understanding these techniques is important for meeting the aesthetic demands of different applications.
