- Abstract
THE effect of chelating agents on recovery and longevity of irradiated animals has aroused considerable interest. Versene-type compounds are used for the decontamination of radioactive areas and internally for treatment of poisoning by heavy metals1,2. Mouse injections have resulted in improved post-irradiation survival3, whereas cytological studies on plant cells have demonstrated that treatment with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) prior to irradiation increases the yield of radiation-induced chromosome aberrations4.
