- Abstract
Introduction: Gastrectomy with limphadenectomy D2 (TG) is the most frequently performed operation in gastric cancer treatment. Different metabolic disorders are occured after gastrectomy. Material and methods: We performed retrospective analysis 57 disease free patients, operated between 2009 and 2012 in National Institute of Oncology (NIO-PIB) and in other hospitals. BMI, morphology, concentration of proteins, lipids, iron, vitaminum B12 and densytometry were evaluated and compared to whole population data. Results: Average BMI value was reduced about 25% during first 6 months after gastrectomy. Maximum BMI reduction amounted to 50%. Actual average BMI is smaller about 15% than before the disease. Osteopathy (osteoporosis and osteopenia) occured in more than 90% patients. Anemia was recognized in 57% female patient and 76% male one. Conclusions: The greatest nutritional deficiencies are observed in the first 6–12 months after TG. During the entire postoperative period, it is necessary to monitor the level of vitamin B12 and iron and their supplementation, as well as periodic evaluation of bone mineralization.
