- Abstract
Tetelo disease (Newcastle disease) is an important disease that highly causes high mortality in susceptible poultry. This study aims to determine the incidence of tetelo in poultry necropsied at the Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Syiah Kuala University (USK), Banda Aceh. The research samples were collected from 239 cadaver birds consisting of broilers, layers, domestic chickens, and other poultry which were necropsied at the USK FKH Pathology Laboratory from July to November 2019. The samples collected were the trachea, proventriculus, cecal tonsils, and brain. Samples were selected based on changes in anatomic pathology suspected of tetelo disease, then made histopathological and immunohistochemical preparations in paraffin blocks. The results showed that 106 birds were necropsied and died from tetelo disease, 52 were suspected fowl cholera, 25 were infected with infectious bronchitis, 22 had avian influenzas, 14 had colibacillosis, 7 with chronic respiratory disease, 5 had coccidiosis, 4 infectious laryngotracheitis, 2 infectious bursal diseases, and 2 coryza. This study concluded that 44,4% (106/239) of the necropsied poultry cadaver at the USK FKH Pathology Laboratory from July to November 2019 were diagnosed as having died due to infection with tetelo disease.
