- Abstract
The article titled "Precarious Memory. Retcon and Conspiracy Theories in the Superhero Comic Captain America" deals with the revival of the superhero Captain America and the subsequent reinterpretation of events in the series' history. Through retcons, the superhero's past is reinterpreted and adjusted, which can provide fertile ground for conspiracy theories. It is argued that superhero comics exhibit certain characteristics of conspiracy theories and that conspiracy theories and superhero comics are aesthetically, rhetorically, and structurally closely connected. The text also examines the connection between conspiracy theories and the internet, particularly social media, and emphasizes the political impact of superhero comics. It also addresses the use of superhero symbols during the storming of the Capitol in the United States. The article includes a list of sources on various aspects of popular culture, particularly conspiracy theories and superhero comics.
