- Abstract
Introduction. Angiography used with fluorescein is a powerful tool in the evaluation of retina pathologies, especially because it allows a complete visualization of vascular alterations. Even though this technique has been used to describe alterations in retinopathy of prematurity before, it has not been used to describe findings in the posterior pole. This study was presented with the objective to describe findings in angiography with fluorescein in retinopathy of prematurity in the posterior pole, which are not commonly visualized in indirect ophthalmoscopy. Material and Methods. Cases of retinopathy of prematurity were selected from neonatal intensive care unit to be submitted to an ophthalmic evaluation under general intravenous anesthesia before laser photocoagulation. Maximal pupillary dilation was achieved with ophthalmic drops containing tropicamide 0.8% and fenilefrine 5% in both eyes. An angiography equipped with RetCamll was used to take image sin high color definition and to perform the angiography with fluorescein intravenously at 10%. Results. The series was composed of 7 patients that were over 35 weeks in gestational age. Changes in the posterior pole, such as aneurysms, vascular threads, macular edema, pre-retinal fibrovascualar red, capillary dilation and occlusions. Discussion. Changes in the posterior pole were present in patients with advanced retinopathy of prematurity, which were identified through angiography. This allows for a better comprehension and evaluation of the pathology.
