Discusses Italian artist Dosso Dossi's painting of fresco cycles in a number of rooms in the Magno Palazzo of Bernard Cles, the Prince Bishop and future Cardinal of Trent, in the 16th century. Dossi's juxtaposition of Aesop's fables and fragmented ancient statues; Intellectual relationship between image and text; Dossi's adaptation of his pictorial language to contemporary reading and viewing habits; Ways in which Dossi's landscapes serve to amplify the experience of learning and enjoyment in the fables.
