The author offers insights on a study published within the issue which focused on the language policy for non-native English language-speaking international teaching assistants (ITA) at the University of Minnesota. Topics discussed include the concerns of U.S. colleges and universities with regard to the teaching ability of ITA in the English language, the materiality perspective on the teaching practices of ITA, and the cultural issues regarding communication skills and teaching quality.
