- Abstract
This study discusses the act of reception related to the experience of the self in its world; i.e., the external reality surrounding it as having an effective influence on becoming aware of the self and the consequent forms of expression, including the different genres of literature. The study focuses on the practical experience of the Egyptian writer Taha Hussein (1889-1973) as described in one of his works, The Promise of Truth, using a descriptive analytical method that seeks to benefit from the advantages of Reception Theory and some of the terms developed by modern narrative science. The study seeks to answer the question: how can the act of receiving the self from its world, based on its reading, be of a disseminating nature in the sense that it causes the emergence of expressive forms that occupy the site of reaction or serve as outcomes revealing the correspondence between the two sides. Our understanding of such correspondence is not limited to the question of synonymous or equivalent expressions, but is extended to opposite expressions, as well. The study tries to benefit from the intellectual outputs of several fields of knowledge, such as: modern narrative theory, the act of reading, reception theory, and the concept of phenomenology (the self and its perception of what is in the world) related to the field of philosophy, along with the concept of conformity in the domain of rhetoric.
