- Abstract
Nicarbazin (NCZ) is often used in poultry production to prevent parasites, but is not allowed to be added into the feed of laying hens. Chicken coccidiosis is caused by Eimeria coccidia affecting the epithelial cells of the digestive tract, causing chronic enteritis and death. In recent years, due to the growing attention of animal welfare, some conventional cage farm has converted into barn type system or free range system, which increases the chance and possibility of infection with coccidiosis, which makes it possible for unscrupulous farmers to use NCZ in feeds. The purpose of this study is to explore the possible effect of NCZ on chicken reproductive performance. Four dilutions of 0, 5, 20, 40 μ/mol, were prepared in the cell cultures of granulosa cells and theca cells. The cell viability was analyzed at 2, 4, 6 days of cell culture. Results show that NCZ decreased the cell viability on both granulosa and theca cells, with a significant dose response in granulosa cells.
