- Abstract
This study was to explore the antimutagenicities of hot water and ethanolic extracts from forage plants, including purpureal Napier grass, Sesbania, Wedelia and Sun Hemp. Results indicate that microbial toxicity and mutagenicity assay show that all the extracts, had no toxicity and mutagenicity effect toward all tester strains-Salmonella typhinurium TA 9 8 and TA100.Antimutagenic test of 50% ethanolic extract from purpureal Napier grass showed strong inhibition effect toward TA100 and TA98 against 2-aminoanthracene. Hot water extract showed positive inhibition effect. But all extracts from purpureal Napier grass has lower exibition effect toward TA98 or TA100 against 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide. 50% ethanolic extract from Sesbania also showed positive inhibition effect toward TA98 or TA100 against 2-AA. All the extracts from Wedelia and Sun Hemp demonstrated no antimutagenicitiy against TA98 and TA100 induced with 4-NQO or 2-AA.
