- Abstract
In the automotive industry, there is a major problem with obsolescence, especially with semiconductors. The increasing demand for semiconductors for electronic interfaces, driver assistance systems, and electric vehicles contradicts the ever shorter lifecycles of these components. This results in many semiconductors becoming outdated and being phased out. The closure of wafer fabs and the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of housings also contribute to the acceleration of obsolescence. In order to reduce costs related to obsolescence, automotive manufacturers should create a comprehensive list of critical parts and consider long-term storage of wafers.
